A brief timeline

The cornerstone was laid in 1882. After taking over, Antoni Gaudí transformed the original neo-Gothic proposal into a singular language in which natural forms and Christian symbols are inseparable from structure. Construction continues through the contribution of successive generations.

Architecture and art

The façades narrate the Nativity, Passion, and Glory; branching interior columns form a luminous forest. Its unusual forms are not spectacle for its own sake: they make doctrine readable through movement, material, and light.

A living church

Sagrada Família is both a building site and a basilica where liturgy is celebrated. Its unfinished story is a reminder that a shared work of the Church can outlast one lifetime and be entrusted from one generation to the next.

If you visit, remember that this is first a place of worship: check the official liturgical schedule, keep silence, and respect the local community.
