God seeks us first.
Prayer begins with God's desire to meet humanity. Even when we are unable to express it, He is already present and inviting us into a relationship.
Prayer is raising the mind and heart to God, asking for what is good, and, more profoundly, establishing a covenant relationship between a child and the Father through Christ in the Holy Spirit.
The heart is where we meet.
In biblical language, the heart is the center of decision-making and truth within a person. Prayers may be numerous or few, but if the heart deliberately distances itself from God, then the words become empty.
Do I often approach God as someone in need, as a beloved child, or as someone fulfilling a duty?
Sit still for two minutes, breathe slowly, and simply say: Lord, I am here. Then honestly tell God what is present in your heart.
Lord, grant me the humility to accept your invitation to encounter you and remain in your love.
