God takes the initiative to meet us.

Human beings can recognize traces of God in the universe and in their conscience, but it is God who actively reveals himself through the history of salvation. Revelation reaches its fullness in Jesus Christ.

Key point

The Church receives and transmits the Word of God in a single treasury through Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition, under the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Read the Bible to encounter God.

The Bible comprises many literary forms and was written in different circumstances. When reading it, we seek what the author intended to convey, placing the text within the context of the entire Bible and within the living faith of the Church.

Scripture

Suggested reading: Luke 24:13-35. Two disciples were given an explanation of the Scriptures by Jesus and recognized Him when He broke the bread.

Practice

Read a short passage from the Gospel slowly. Write down a word that strikes you, something you understand about the Lord, and something you will do.

Prayer

Lord, open my mind and heart so that I may listen to Your Word and put it into practice.
