Prayer is a relationship

Prayer is not just reciting a formula. It is an encounter in which God lovingly calls us first, and we respond with faith, gratitude, and a desire to live close to Him.

Key point

We can pray verbally, through meditation, or in silence. The important thing is to turn our whole being towards God with sincerity and humility.

Five directions of prayer

Prayer life can take the form of praise and adoration, supplication, intercession for others, thanksgiving, and adoration. These directions help ensure that prayer is not solely focused on personal needs.

Reflection

Of the five approaches above, which do I usually practice and which do I tend to forget?

Practice

Take three minutes of silence. Then say a word of thanks, an apology, and a prayer for others.

Prayer

Lord, help me to come to You with a sincere heart and to recognize Your presence each day.
