Born into a new life

Baptism frees us from sin, making us new creations, children of God and members of Christ's body. It is the gateway to life in the Holy Spirit and the other sacraments.

Key point

The main sign is immersion or pouring water along with the baptism in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

An indelible identity and mission.

Baptism marks a permanent sacred mark and should not be repeated. Those who have been baptized share in the priestly, prophetic, and kingly offices of Christ, and are called to worship, witness, and serve.

Scripture

Suggested reading: Romans 6:3-11. Saint Paul describes Baptism as dying and rising again with Christ.

Reflection

How is my baptized identity reflected in the way I speak, choose, and treat others?

Practice

Find your baptism date and dedicate that day each year to giving thanks, renewing your profession of faith, and praying for your godparents.
