Freedom to love what is good
Freedom is not just about doing what you like. Freedom reaches maturity when it helps us proactively choose what is true, good, and selfless. Each choice creates habits and gradually shapes the person we become.
Responsibility may diminish due to unintentional ignorance, fear, pressure, or habit, but we still have a duty to seek the truth and cultivate the ability to choose what is right.
Conscience needs to be trained.
Conscience is the rational judgment of what should or shouldn't be done in a given situation. Conscience is not just a feeling; it needs to be illuminated by the Word of God, the teachings of the Church, prayer, experience, and wise counsel.
When making decisions, do I only ask what is most convenient, or do I also ask what is right, who will be affected, and what my responsibilities are?
Before making a decision, write four lines: the event; the options; the good and the consequences of each option; the prayer or consultation step to take.
Lord, grant me a clear conscience, the courage to follow the truth, and the humility to correct my mistakes.
