A passage made within the community

The Easter Vigil is the privileged time for the initiation of adults: the Church hears salvation history, blesses the water, professes the faith, and celebrates Baptism, Confirmation, and the Eucharist. Pastoral circumstances may lead the competent local authority to set another date.

Key point

What is essential lies not in clothing, photographs, or a celebration afterward, but in Christ's action and the response of faith. A Christian name and a godparent are aids to new life, not decorations.

Scripture

Suggested reading: Romans 6:3-11. This text helps us understand descent into the water as dying with Christ and emergence from it as rising to live with him.

Prepare what can be prepared

Confirm the rehearsal time, documents, Christian name, godparent, manner of receiving Communion, the Eucharistic fast, and any accommodations needed for health or disability. Do not hesitate to ask for an explanation of any word or gesture you do not understand.

Reflection

What do I want the community to pray for me? Am I anxious about the rite itself, or about the commitment to live after it?

Practice

Review the order of the celebration with your godparent and plan your first Sunday, first mystagogy session, and one act of thanksgiving after receiving the sacraments.
