God takes the initiative

God enables humanity to know him through creation and especially through salvation history. Revelation reaches its fullness in Jesus Christ; the Church receives the one deposit of the Word of God handed on in Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradition.

Key point

The Magisterium serves the Word of God; it does not stand above it. Through the Holy Spirit, the Magisterium is responsible for authentically interpreting the deposit of faith entrusted to the Apostles.

Scripture

Suggested reading: Luke 24:25-35 and 2 Timothy 3:14-17. Scripture leads us to Christ and trains the disciple to live in righteousness.

Read the text in context

We must attend to literary genre, historical circumstances, what the author intended to express, the unity of the whole of Scripture, and the living faith of the Church. A verse should not be separated from its context to prove one's own point.

Reflection

What do I usually seek when I read Scripture: information, a quick answer, or an encounter that transforms my life?

Practice

Practice with Luke 15:11-32: read slowly; observe the characters; recognize what the text says about God; choose one response to live out this week.
