Love to the end

Jesus freely gives his life in loving obedience to the Father and in solidarity with sinners. The Cross both exposes the destructive power of sin and reveals a mercy stronger than sin.

Key point

The Resurrection does not mean only that Jesus' teaching lives on. He himself rose in a transformed body; this event confirms his identity and begins the new creation.

Scripture

Suggested reading: Luke 23:32–24:12 and Romans 6:3-11. Baptism gives the disciple a share in Christ's death and new life.

Saved to live a new life

Salvation is entirely a gift and cannot be purchased by achievement. Yet this gift does not make us passive: living faith receives grace, breaks with sin, and bears fruit in love.

Reflection

From what guilt, habit, fear, or estrangement do I need to be set free so that I can live as one who has been saved?

Prayer

Crucified and risen Lord Jesus, lead me through whatever is slowly bringing death into my life, so that I may live in the freedom of one who belongs to you.
