The central mystery of faith
Christians do not believe in three gods. The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are three truly distinct Persons, yet there is only one divine nature. We know this mystery because God himself has revealed it in salvation history.
The three Persons do not divide power or act as three separate parts. Every divine work is the work of the Trinity as a whole, while also revealing what is proper to each Person in relation to the others.
Suggested reading: Matthew 3:13-17 and Matthew 28:18-20. The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are revealed in Jesus' baptism and in the mission to baptize all nations.
Invited into communion
The mystery of the Trinity is not a puzzle to solve. It is the source of Christian life: in the Son we are adopted as children, turn toward the Father, and live by the Holy Spirit.
When I make the Sign of the Cross, am I conscious that I am professing faith in the Trinity and entrusting myself to God?
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
