The Word became flesh
Jesus of Nazareth is the eternal Son of the Father, who assumed a human nature without ceasing to be divine. He is one divine Person in two natures and truly shares the human condition in all things but sin.
The name Jesus means “God saves”; Christ means “the Anointed One”; Son of God expresses his unique relationship with the Father; Lord professes his divine sovereignty.
Suggested reading: John 1:1-18; Luke 4:16-22; Mark 8:27-35. Pay attention to what Jesus says about himself and to the response he invites.
The Kingdom of God has drawn near
Through his preaching, signs, and closeness to sinners and those who are excluded, Jesus proclaims the Kingdom of God. He does not merely propose an ideal; he invites each person to follow him and share in his mission.
Do I presently see Jesus as a historical figure, a moral teacher, the Savior, or the Lord of my life? Why?
