The faith of the Church is handed on
The Creed is not a summary of every detail but a map of the foundational mysteries. When Christians say “I believe,” they receive the faith of the Church's “we believe” and commit themselves to live what they profess.
The Church venerates Mary because of what God has accomplished in her and asks the saints to intercede; this veneration differs from the adoration given to God alone.
Suggested reading: Luke 1:26-55; 1 Corinthians 15:20-28; Revelation 21:1-5. Christian hope looks toward the resurrection of the body and a new heaven and a new earth.
Judgment in truth and mercy
Death ends the time for choosing in earthly life. The Church teaches about particular judgment, heaven, purgatory, and hell, while awaiting Christ's return, the resurrection of the dead, and the fulfillment of creation.
What in the Creed do I not yet understand or cannot yet honestly profess? How does the hope of the resurrection change the way I live today?
Slowly read the Apostles' Creed. Mark one line for thanksgiving, one that calls for further study, and one that invites a change of life.
